Ex Timberwolves Player Kirk Snyder arrested in Ohio.

by Administrator on Mar.31, 2009, under Basketball

Kirk Snyder has been jailed in Ohio on charges of aggravated burglary and felonious assault, a newspaper reported on its Web site Monday.
Warren County sheriff’s deputies said they arrested the former NBA player Monday morning at his home in Deerfield Township northeast of Canton, Ohio.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that a woman who lived near Snyder called police when she heard glass breaking downstairs at her house.
She told deputies that when she went to investigate, a tall man pushed her aside and ran to an upstairs bedroom where he allegedly began to assault the woman’s sleeping husband. She says she was able to pull the hood from covering his head and he then fled out the back door.
Deputies say their investigation and a canine led deputies to Snyder’s nearby residence where he was taken into custody within minutes of the offense.
Snyder, 25, led the Nevada Wolf Pack to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 in 2004. He was the 16th player taken in the 2004 NBA draft and played for several NBA teams before spending the past season in a pro league in China.
Snyder was being held in the Warren County jail pending his arraignment Tuesday in Mason Municipal Court. The case remains under investigation.

2 people killed in Vilma’s Long Island condo.

by Administrator on Mar.31, 2009, under NFL

Cops are investigating whether two Bronx immigrants were executed in former Jet linebacker Jonathan Vilma’s million-dollar Long Island condo before their bodies were dumped in Brooklyn and Queens, sources said yesterday. Neighbors called cops Thursday night after hearing two shots fired in the unit — part of the posh, gated Eagle Chase complex in Woodbury –after five men drove up in a car and a Ford F- 150 truck. The men, including one who identified himself as Vilma’s cousin, had everything they needed to enter the 99-unit luxury compound — the password, the electronic gate opener and the keys to Vilma’s home, said a condo-board member who asked to remain anonymous. Police are looking for the man who claimed to be Vilma’s cousin. Vilma, who now plays for the New Orleans Saints and is trying to sell the condo, is not believed to be a target of the investigation, but cops want to talk to him about who might have been using the home, according to law-enforcement sources.

22 killed at a soccer match in Ivory Coast.

by Administrator on Mar.29, 2009, under Soccer

ivory-pic.gif
At least 22 people have been killed in a stampede at a stadium in the Ivory Coast during their football World Cup qualifier against Malawi.
Eye witnesses said that part of a wall collapsed on Sunday at the 45,000-capacity Houphouet-Boigny arena in the main city, Abidjan, prompting people to rush from the stands.
“Spectators who did not buy tickets were jostling before the match,” Dagobert Banzio, the Ivorian sports minister, said on state television.
“They smashed one of the main gates of the stadium. They were trampled,” he said, adding that up to 132 people were also injured.
“The Chelsea striker, Didier Drogba, was making his return appearance, so tens of thousands of people had turned up to see their footballing hero.”
Many casualties were treated at the stadium as the match went ahead with Ivory Coast beating Malawi 5-0.
The country’s interior and sports ministers held an emergency meeting with leaders of the Ivory Coast Football Federation (FIF) following the disaster, FIF president Albert Kakou Anzouan said.
Hundreds of people have been killed in stadium riots and stampedes in Africa over the last decade.

Maradona replys Pele

by Administrator on Mar.27, 2009, under Basketball

diego-maradona.jpg
Diego Maradona has reacted to claims made by Pele that he is not a good role model for children, by declaring that he lost his virginity to a man.
The Brazilian legend claimed last week that both Ronaldo and Robinho have taken drugs, and that Maradona is not someone to look up to because of his history with narcotics.
The Argentine coach was asked for his thoughts on these statements at a press conference today, and did not twist his words when responding.
“What do you want me to say? He debuted (lost his virginity) with a lad (a man),” is what the coach is reported to have said by a host of sources, including Marca.
Pele has already had to track back on his claims that Robinho had taken drugs, after the Manchester City man threatened to take legal action.
The now retired Pele claimed that what had been quoted was a “misunderstanding” and suggested the drugs claims were not true.
This latest remark by Maradona has dragged the Brazilian legend into the spotlight yet again and it will be intriguing to see if, or how, he reacts to the comments.

by Administrator on Mar.26, 2009, under Basketball

Ryan Moats rushed his family to the hospital, 26-year-old NFL running back Ryan Moats rolled through a red light. A Dallas police officer pulled their SUV over outside the emergency room.
Moats and his wife explained that her mother was dying inside the hospital.
“You really want to go through this right now?” Moats pleaded. “My mother-in-law is dying. Right now!”
Officer Robert Powell, 25, was unmoved. He spent long minutes writing Moats a ticket and threatened him with arrest.
“I can screw you over,” the officer said. “I’d rather not do that.”
The scene last week, captured by a dashboard video camera, prompted apologies and the promise of an investigation from Dallas police officials Wednesday.
“There were some things that were said that were disturbing, to say the least,” said Lt. Andy Harvey, a police spokesman.

Henrik Larsson calls Ronaldo a ‘diver’

by Administrator on Mar.25, 2009, under Soccer

ronaldo-c.jpg
Henrik Larsson has labelled his former Manchester United team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo a ‘diver’.
Larsson is set to go toe-to-toe with his former Old Trafford colleague as Sweden face Portugal in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday.
Ronaldo once again came under the spotlight during the last seven days, throwing several tantrums and lunging in on Danny Murphy as Manchester United lost 2-0 to Fulham.
But it is his honesty in the challenge, or lack of, that concerns Larsson, who intends to have a captain’s word in the ear of the referee before kick-off in Porto on Saturday.
“I intend to speak with the referee before the match to warn him about Ronaldo diving,” The Daily Mail quotes Larsson as saying.
“We must be careful, as a team, not to get caught out by that, but so must the referee. I will be having a word with him and telling him to keep an eye out for it.”

Eto’o becomes 5th all time goal leader for Barcelona.

by Administrator on Mar.24, 2009, under Soccer

samuel-eto.jpg
Cameroon international forward Samuel Eto’o scored twice in Barcelona’s thoroughly convincing 6-0 victory over Malaga on Sunday evening, and his double strike made him a member of a very elite band of forwards.
Eto’o’s clinical finishes moved him onto 123 goals for the Blaugrana in official competitions, making him the fifth top goalscorer in the club’s glittering history and moving him just one effort behind Mariano Martin in the all-time rankings.
Eto’o’s goals edged him ahead of Dutchman Patrick Kluivert in the all-time goalscoring chart, however, he still has a long way to go to catch up with Barcelona’s two most famous hit-men.
In position number one is Cesar, who has scored 235 goals in official matches for the club and he sits ahead of Hungarian Ladislao Kubala who achieved 196 strikes in the 1950’s.
Brazilian forward Rivaldo completes the top three, with his 130 strikes during his six year spell at the club.

The controversial TNT announcer made some disparaging remarks about the city of Cleveland before the network televised Thursday night’s game between the Cavaliers and Portland Trail Blazers.
Bantering in TNT’s studios in Atlanta with co-hosts Ernie Johnson and Chris Webber, Barkley, who also thinks the Cavs need to speed up their offense, took off on Cleveland and Milwaukee.
Barkley: If you were to swap the people in Cleveland and Milwaukee, it’d be the same dreary ass city. They are both dreary places. C Webb, would you agree? Cleveland and Milwaukee, other than Perkins Soul Food joint, they are the same dreary ass city.
Webber: I agree.
Johnson: I was born in Milwaukee, they are not the same city.
Barkley: Ernie you were born in Milwaukee?
Johnson: I was born in Milwaukee.
Barkley: Milwaukee is a very nice city.
Johnson: Certainly is. And there’s nothing wrong with Cleveland either.
Barkley: Oh, yes there is. If you live there.
Johnson: You ever been to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? It’s beautiful.
Barkley: They got a Hip Hop Hall of Fame?
Webber: The water is so blue right there by the arena.
Barkley: There’s nothing happening in Cleveland, trust me, other than the Indians.
Johnson: They are the number one seed right now.
Barkley: They’ve got LeBron James who is spectacular. There is no reason to live in Cleveland, that’s why the call it the mistake by the lake. They didn’t come up with that for no reason Ernie.

Ricky Rubio wants to enter ‘09 NBA draft.

by Administrator on Mar.20, 2009, under Basketball

ricky-rubio.jpg
Spain’s Ricky Rubio, a dazzling point guard with Pete Maravich-like skills and the facial features to match, is considered a lock to be selected in the top 10 of the NBA draft. Several league executives believe the 6-foot-3 Olympian will be a top five pick. The question is, when? It could be this June. Rubio has made it clear that he would like to enter the 2009 draft, according to sources close to the situation. The 18-year-old Rubio is draft-eligible because he will turn 19 before the end of 2009. But it’s not that easy. Rubio has a complicated, multimillion-dollar contract buyout with his Spanish team, DKV Joventut Barcelona. NBA teams are allowed to contribute a maximum of $500,000 to buy out the contract of a foreign player. That means if Rubio seeks to leave Joventut, he could be forced to use most of the money from his first NBA contract to pay for the buyout.

Brazilian power house Corinthians want Zidane.

by Administrator on Mar.19, 2009, under Soccer

zinedine-zidane.jpg
Real Madrid’s hopes of seeing Zinedine Zidane return to the confines of the Santiago Bernabeu could be derailed if Corinthians pull off one of the biggest surprise coups in football transfer history. According to El Correo Digital, the Paulista juggernauts are looking to tempt “Zizou” out of retirement in the hopes of recreating a slice of the Galacticos era right on Brazilian shores as they dream of seeing the Frenchman team up with Ronaldo again. But the club director is not holding out too much hope of that happening.
