Anderson Silva handles Chael Sonnen

by Administrator on Aug.08, 2010, under MMA

Namely, that Silva still has a perfect slate in the UFC, and he still has his title belt. He may have gained a bit of respect in the process.
“I’m gonna throw him down to the mat,” Sonnen told his pay-per-view audience, “and beat a hole in his face for 25 minutes or until he gets up.”
Silva produced a stunning ending to his ninth straight title defense, inducing a submission from Sonnen while lying on his back and being pummeled with less than two minutes remaining in the fifth and final round. He trailed on all four cards when refs ruled that Sonnen tapped his own leg in the signal for submission from a triangle choke at 3 minutes, 10 seconds of the fifth round.
“I knew I was losing all through the four rounds,” Silva said through a translator moments after it was over. “But I had to keep fighting. No excuses, but I hurt my ribs” leading up to the fight, and “my doctor told me I shouldn’t fight. But I came out here for the fans.”
The crowd at Oracle Arena, though, seemed very much in Silva’s corner. He entered the ring to a loud chorus of cheers during pre-fight ceremonies while Sonnen was resoundingly booed.
For all the pre-fight talking, Sonnen stared solemnly downward when the two fighters met for instructions, while Silva looked directly at his opponent.

by Administrator on Feb.01, 2010, under MMA

Herschel Walker MMA
Former NFL star Herschel Walker stopped Hungarian fighter Greg Nagy in the third round Saturday night to win his mixed-martial arts debut.
Still trim and fit at 47, Walker used his strength advantage to wear down the 26-year-old Nagy (1-2). He appeared to be close to the win near the end of the second five-minute round, but Nagy managed to extend the bout.
Walker was the 1982 Heisman Trophy winner while at Georgia and played professionally for Dallas, Philadelphia, Minnesota, the New York Giants and the USFL’s New Jersey Generals.
Herschel Walker turned his attention to MMA about 2½ months ago when he moved to San Jose, Calif., to train at renowned American Kickboxing Academy. At 47 he should do well in the MMA.

Michael Jackson Was A Fan Of The UFC

by Administrator on Jul.11, 2009, under MMA

It has been nearly two weeks since Michael Jackson’s sudden death turned the world upside down. Shocking revelations about the entertainer have emerged with each passing day, but on the heels of yesterday’s emotional “Michael Jackson Memorial,” it has come to light that MJ was a big UFC fan. “He was a fan and he watched the UFC pay-per-views and he was into it,” said Lorenzo Fertitta, chairman and CEO of the UFC. That being said, who was at UFC 84 on May 24, 2008? If you were, then maybe you saw a person in a wheelchair that had a black cloth over his face and sunglasses on. Wanna guess who that was? That’s right, it was none other than the “King of Pop” himself, rolling around floor-level inside the the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, Nevada.
R.I.P. Michael Jackson.

Does Kimbo deserve some credit?

by Administrator on Oct.06, 2008, under MMA

kimbo.jpg
So anyone out there that may have thought Kimbo Slice would be the number one ranked heavyweight in the world someday was really only kidding themselves. The problem with that all comes down to the way EliteXC has marketed him. Kevin Fergusen just wanted to fight, which is obvious because he made a name for himself fighting on the internet against bums in back yards and parking lots. When he decided to make the move into the MMA universe people cringed, but Kimbo knew what he was doing. If anything, hate EliteXC, hate Jared Shaw. They are the ones that set this all up. Last night when Kimbo Slice lay sprawled out on the floor, Jared Shaw can be seen in the background screaming at the referee about a shot to the back of the head. When questioned about it later he stated that it was because he wanted the best safety for the fighters.
