Vernon Davis and Michael Crabtree got into an altercation practice

by Administrator on Sep.02, 2010, under NFL

The 49ers’ two biggest personalities got into a heated exchange at practice Wednesday.Pro Bowl tight end Vernon Davis, a team captain, and second-year receiver Michael Crabtree got into a heated argument that lasted more than 20 minutes during a walk-through before coach Mike Singletary took them inside the locker room to finish the conversation.
Whatever the cause, it drew almost everyone’s attention. Davis launched into Crabtree in profanity-laced fashion, with Crabtree responding with gestures and loud words.
Singletary declined to describe the “issue” but said Davis, as a team captain, did the right thing the wrong way. Davis and Crabtree were not available for interviews.

JaMarcus Russell arrested for illegal codeine possession

by Administrator on Jul.06, 2010, under NFL

JaMarcus Russell was arrested at his home in Mobile, Ala., on Monday afternoon and charged with possession of codeine syrup – a controlled substance.
Russell was arrested during an undercover investigation. Police did not find a prescription for the codeine during their search. Although other people were on the property, Russell was the only one arrested.
The Raiders released Russell, 24, in May after the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2007 posted a record of 7-18 as a starting quarterback. The quarterback’s weight issues were well documented, teammates openly questioned his work ethic, and there were also constant whispers of Russell’s use of codeine syrup.
Codeine syrup is sometimes used in a recreational drink known as “purple drank,” “lean” or “sizzurp” as a means of enhancing the effects of alcohol. A popular drink in the South, it is a mix of prescription-strength cough syrup that contains the narcotic codeine and the antihistamine promethazine, with alcohol or 7-Up and Jolly Ranchers candy.
The Raiders paid Russell more than $39 million during his three years with the team. They are seeking a return of $9.55 million on the basis that the money was paid as an advance against future years of his contract.

Vince Young receives assault citation

by Administrator on Jun.14, 2010, under NFL

Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young received an assault citation after getting into a fight at a Dallas strip club and leaving before authorities arrived early Sunday, police said.
Surveillance video footage released by police showed the former University of Texas star and several people talking in a small room before Young attacked someone in the room. Others tried to break up the fight.
Young wasn’t at Club Onyx when police responded to a call about the fight, said Dallas police Lt. Andy Harvey.
Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher was holding his annual charity softball game Sunday night in Nashville, Tenn. Young was not on the early list of players committed to appear in the game.

Darrelle Revis wants $20 million a season

by Administrator on May.18, 2010, under NFL

Darrelle Revis is looking for a wild pay raise — to $20 million per year, according to a report. The highest paid cornerback in the NFL last season, Dunta Robinson, formerly of the Houston Texans, earned $9.957 million. Revis said last week that he had begun contract negotiations with the Jets, and general manager Mike Tannenbaum has said he is committed to keeping the All-Pro cornerback in a Jets uniform for the rest of his career. However, with such a hefty price tag reported, the two sides could be farther apart than initially anticipated.
Only three players last season Giants quarterback Eli Manning, Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers and Bears quarterback Jay Cutler took in salaries in excess of $20 million last season.

Cowboys WR Roy Williams faces a prove-it season

by Administrator on May.14, 2010, under NFL

While “the gifted Dez Bryant” may have something to say about it, Roy Williams insists he’s still a starting WR. “Like I said when I first got here, ain’t no such thing as me sitting on the bench,” Williams said while participating in a golf outing with the team’s corporate sponsors. “Never in my life.” There is a first time for everything. For the first time in his career, Roy Williams faces a prove-it season. He does not start merely by showing up for duty.
Williams promised he will not rank among the league leaders in drops as he did last season, with eight – more than all but 11 players. The Romo-Williams search for common ground remains a work in progress.

Tim Tebow humbled that his jersey is best seller

by Administrator on May.06, 2010, under NFL

Thanks to a quarterback who hasn’t played a down, Denver led the league in NFLShop.com sales in April. Tim Tebow had only eight full days, yet somehow he managed to top all NFL players in jersey sales for the month of April. Tebow didn’t become an NFL player until late on April 22, when the Broncos drafted him with the No. 25 pick in the first round. “I think it’s an honor for people to want my jersey and want to have it and want to wear it,” Tebow said Wednesday afternoon. “It is somewhat surreal to have it sell more than some of these people I grew up idolizing.”
The next six top-sellers are all-star veterans: Donovan McNabb (with orders for his new Redskins No. 5 jersey), Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Brett Favre, new New York Jet LaDainian Tomlinson and Tony Romo.
Two other rookies are in the top 10: Detroit defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh (the second overall pick) at No. 8 and St. Louis quarterback Sam Bradford (the No. 1 pick in the draft) at No. 9.

LaDainian Tomlinson expects the Chargers to release him soon

by Administrator on Feb.05, 2010, under NFL

The running back told The San Diego Union-Tribune on Thursday that he has thought for a while he would be let go by the Charger
The NFL’s most valuable player in 2006 has two years remaining on his contract. He is due a $2 million roster bonus March 5 and would be paid $5 million in total salary in 2010.
Tomlinson tells the newspaper he doesn’t know when the Chargers will release him and that his agent, Tom Condon, might call the club to expedite the process.
Tomlinson has become one of the most beloved athletes in San Diego history during a nine-year career but his production and speed have been decreasing.
Tomlinson had 730 yards on 223 carries for an average of 3.3 yards per carry this past season, all career lows. The lower numbers were due in part to the Chargers relying more on their high-octane passing game, as well as L.T. missing the second and third games with a sprained ankle.
